How does the PUSD Education Foundation benefit our schools?


The foundation supports student programs, projects and initiatives that do not receive tax-based funding. It also promotes and recognizes academic excellence by students and innovative instruction by teachers and staff.


I already pay taxes. Why should I donate to the PUSD Education Foundation?


Our tax dollars support mandated education. When you give to the PUSD Education Foundation, your money makes it possible for us to offer Prescott Unified School District (PUSD) students the highest quality educational opportunities and experiences. The PUSD Education Foundation seeks to offer students more than the minimum level of education required by the state and district.  Also, many programs have been cut from significant budge reductions since 2008.   The PUSD Education Foundation supports educators and innovative teaching in our PUSD schools.

How does the PUSDEF benefit the community?


Businesses are attracted to communities with effective, strongly-supported public schools. The Foundation is a public expression of community support and builds bridges between schools and the community, and between current leaders and the leaders of tomorrow.


Who is in charge of the PUSDEF?


The Foundation is governed by an independent volunteer board of directors comprised of business and community leaders, parents, and alumni. Directors are elected to three-year terms and may be re-elected. We currently have 25 Board Members who donate their time and money to support and run our foundation.

Does the PUSD administration or PUSD School Board control the PUSDEF?


No. The PUSD Education Foundation operates independently of PUSD, though we do share a vision of educational excellence, student achievement and teacher support. The Foundation is organized exclusively for educational and charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation shall receive and disburse funds, property, and gifts of any kind exclusively for the benefit of Prescott Unified School District

How does the PUSDEF distribute funds?


The Foundation uses a grant application process (find out more here) with established criteria for evaluating grant requests.  This year, 2016, is our first year of operation and we will be accepting grant applications in Februrary – March 2016 for award distributions in April 2016. 

Can I use my Arizona Tax Credit for the PUSDEF?


No.  This would be in addition to our tax credit for Arizona public schools.  To donate your tax credit, please see the PUSD website’s tax credit page.

  • The State of Arizona has a law that benefits taxpayers and school children alike. A.R.S. 43-1089 allows a tax credit of $200 for individuals and $400 for married couples filing jointly, for fees or donations paid to a public school in support of extracurricular activities.
