2023 PUSD Education Foundation Scholarships

Dr. Kenneth and Iris Walker Scholarship – $1,000

Qualifications & Details

  • Open exclusively to Prescott High School students
  • Available to students to attend a two-year or four-year college or university
  • Field of study: Available only to applicants intending a career in teaching
  • Scholarship type: Financial need will be considered
  • Enrollment status: Applicant may be enrolled either full or part-time
Dr. Kenneth Walker (1924-2017) served as a science teacher, principal and superintendent in public schools for more than 40 years. Dr. Walker served as the PUSD Superintendent for 13 years from 1973-1986. Among his accomplishments was the modernization and centralization of food, transportation and administrative services for the entire district. Under his leadership Granite Mountain School was built along with the adjoining environmental education center that over time grew into the Highlands Center for Natural History, now at Lynx Lake.

His wife, Iris Walker, has been a member of the Prescott PEO Chapter Y for 50 years and has served as its President. Over the decades she has been instrumental in helping PEO provide scholarships for hundreds of deserving women in the Prescott community.

Denise Bussart-Walker Scholarship – $1,000

Qualifications & Details

  • Open exclusively to Prescott High School students
  • Available to students to attend a two-year/ four-year college or vocational institute
  • Field of study: Any college degree or technical-vocational training program
  • Scholarship type: Financial need will be considered
  • Enrollment status: Applicant may be enrolled either full or part-time

Established by the Walker family, Denise Bussart-Walker (PHS ‘73) taught English for 38 years in multiple states at the junior high, high school, college and university levels. Highlights of her career working with students included ten years at Prescott High School and ten years teaching English to International students at ERAU, retiring in 2017.

For Applicants

Please go online to fill out and submit the scholarship application and upload two (2) letters of recommendation and most recent high school transcript.

Scholarships applications will consider the following:
  • Application essays
  • Financial need
  • High school GPA
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation
  • Involvement in community service

Applicant checklist – must be submitted by April 30, 2023:

Upload completed scholarship application by April 30, 2023

Upload two (2) letters of recommendation (see below)

Upload latest high school transcripts showing GPA

Please Note: Incomplete or late application packets will not be considered

 

Letters of Recommendation must include the following:

  • The person making the recommendation must include their name and contact information (note: at least one recommendation must come from a PUSD teacher or staff member)
  • Relationship between the applicant and person making the recommendation (family members of applicant may not make recommendation)
  • Reasons why the applicant should receive the scholarship, including community involvement, potential for success after high school, and other traits that would make the applicant a worthy recipient of the scholarship

Other Information:

  • Scholarship funds will be directly deposited into the school account in the recipient’s name
  • It is the responsibility of the scholarship recipient to notify the PUSD Education Foundation of any changes to the school they attend and changes in personal contact information
